About
MEDICAL
Jeanne Lee, MD, is a board certified internal medicine and palliative care physician. She graduated from University of South Alabama and Duke University Medical School. She worked as a hospitalist for ten years, during which time she transitioned to practicing palliative care. For over a decade, she has acted as a "communication facilitator" between busy healthcare professionals and overwhelmed patients and family members on difficult topics such as prognosis, palliative care, and hospice.
WRITING & SPEAKING
With her passion for educating patients and family members on self advocacy as they try to make sense of living with changing health, Jeanne started a blog at www.realpalliativecare.com in 2020 and wrote the Amazon bestselling book Own Your Care: A Family Guide to Navigating Complex Illness, Changing Health, or Unexpected Prognosis. She also saw a desire among healthcare professionals to more confidently and effectively discuss difficult topics, such as prognosis, hospice support, and end of life decision making, with patients. This evolved into a second passion for speaking to and sharing communication pearls with clinicians.
PERSONAL
Jeanne lives in Texas with her husband and four children. One of her favorite quotes is Brene Brown’s “What’s worth doing even if I fail?” Her driving Why is that all patients living with serious illness feel heard and supported and that all healthcare professionals be given the tools and resources to make that happen.
